The Subcontinent had seen political changes and movements in the early 20th century, notably the fight for independence from British colonial authority. Following the partition, the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir, along with other princely states, was given the option of joining either India or Pakistan. In light of this, the All–Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference became a well-known political party promoting the rights and aspirations of Kashmiri Muslims.
