University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Joins YFK- International Kashmir Lobby Group in Honouring Syed Ali Gilani’s Freedom Leadership
Muzaffarabad, September 5, 2023 – Youth forum for Kashmir with the collaboration of UAJK, commemorated the second death anniversary of Syed Ali Geelani to pay tribute to the iconic leader. Speakers at the seminar emphasized Syed Ali Geelani’s unwavering commitment to the cause of freedom and the importance of making his life and struggle a role model for the youth. They regarded Syed Ali Geelani as the most powerful voice for the entire divided region of Kashmir and noted that his presence in occupied Kashmir had kept the Kashmiri freedom movement united.
Ghulam Mohammad Safi, APHC leader, lauded Syed Ali Geelani’s unparalleled role as the most powerful voice of the people of IIOJK and highlighted that Geelani’s unwavering support for the Kashmir freedom movement embodied the sentiments of the majority of Kashmiris. Professor Dr. Mohammad Kaleem Abbasi, VC of UAJK emphasized that Syed Ali Geelani’s long years of imprisonment in Indian jails did not deter him from his ideology of freedom. He stressed the need for the younger generation to integrate the Kashmir freedom movement into their lives alongside education.
Syed Arif Bahar, a prominent journalist, noted that without Syed Ali Gilani, the Kashmiri movement would have faced challenges similar to the Palestinian freedom movement. Zaman Bajwa, Executive Director of the Youth Forum for Kashmir, announced the establishment of the Syed Ali Geelani Corner at Azad Jammu and Kashmir University to honour his life and struggle. He emphasized that Syed Ali Geelani’s name resonated across Indian Illegally occupied Kashmir, Azad Kashmir, and Pakistan, distinguishing him as a true leader.
A documentary film spotlighting Syed Ali Geelani’s life and struggle was screened, adding depth to the event. The seminar aimed to inspire the youth to carry forward Syed Ali Geelani’s legacy and actively counter Indian propaganda on Kashmir.
