NEW YORK / ISLAMABAD—An international lobbying group has submitted a petition to the five permanent and ten nonpermanent members of United Nations Security Council offering new ideas to end Indian military occupation of Kashmir.
The new ideas work in tandem with the UNSC resolutions on Kashmir.
The humanitarian catastrophe in Kashmir has reached critical levels and warrants “an urgent and immediate” international intervention, said the lobbying group in the petition which has been simultaneously released in New York City and Islamabad on the occasion of Black Day, Oct. 27, which marks the day in 1947 when India invaded and occupied Kashmir against the wishes of Kashmiri people.
YFK, or Youth Forum for Kashmir, which organized the petition, is an international youth-led pressure group that unites human rights defenders and activists on a single platform.
Ahmed Quraishi, a lobbyist at YFK and its executive director, launched the petition at a press briefing at the National Press Club, Islamabad.
“The international community is alert now to the need to normalize the situation in South Asia, and this is not possible without ending the massive Indian human rights violations in Kashmir,” Quraishi said, addressing the representatives of Pakistani and international media in Islamabad.
Kashmiri activists worldwide have intensified their contact campaign with diplomats, politicians and the media everywhere, Quraishi said, adding that this is the best time to convince India to end the military occupation in Kashmir.
“Kashmir freedom activists are more optimistic today than ever. End to Indian occupation is possible, the pressure is building on New Delhi,” he said, adding that Kashmir prevents India from playing its due role in the region.
Youth Forum For Kashmir (YFK) is Pakistan’s first pro-Kashmir, registered and nonpartisan International lobbying group led by young Kashmiris and Pakistanis working to ensure justice to Kashmiris living under Indian-military occupation.
