Human Right Violations
Indian illegal occupation of Kashmir has severely impacted the lives of its citizens, with numerous reports of human rights violations. Based on Kashmir Media Service, this report tries to shed light on suspected Indian military atrocities in the region since its illegal occupation till September, 2023.
Total Killings: According to some reports, the number of killings in Kashmir is 96,246. The severity of Indian brutality is reflected in these casualties.
Custodial Killings: The number of reported custodial killings is 7,306 meaning that people died while in the custody of Indian troops.
Civilian Arrested: The statistics indicate a considerable number of 168,493 civilians arrested, demonstrating the scope of detention and its impact on Kashmiri inhabitants’ life.
Structures Destroyed: According to some reports, 110,501 structures were damaged or destroyed, reflecting substantial infrastructural destruction and community dislocation.
Women Widowed: The number of bereaved women remains at 22,963, highlighting the catastrophic implications for families who have lost loved ones at the hand of brutal Indian forces.
Children Orphaned: Shockingly, the data shows that 1,07,914 children have been orphaned, highlighting the long-term impact on the next generation.
Women Gang-raped/Molested: There have been 11,259 reported occurrences of women being gang-raped or molested, demonstrating the severe nature of gender-based violence and its negative repercussions on victims.
Conclusion
These figures give a bleak picture of the human rights situation in IIOJK. The high incidence of homicides, in-custody deaths, and civilian arrests raises questions about the use of excessive force and probable violations of due process. The extensive demolition of structures displaces communities and worsens the region’s humanitarian problems. The alarming numbers of widowed mothers, orphaned children, and sexual abuse occurrences demonstrate the great human suffering faced by the citizens of IIOJK.
