Women, throughout history, have continuously faced negligence and discrimination in the social and public sphere. In the contemporary era, efforts are being done to address this issue across the globe. March 8th, every year, is celebrated to revitalize and realize the agenda of gender equality.
On this occasion, YFK-International Lobby Group reassures its support for the cause of women empowerment and pays tribute and homage to the sacrifices and resilience of women. Women have a determining role in every sphere of life. The road to sustainable development in any society is only possible if its women are empowered at multiple levels.
Unfortunately, women in the Indian Illegally Occupied Kashmir (IIOJK) face disempowerment and suppression at the hands of Indian forces. Their socio-economic and political vulnerability continue to marginalize their participation in the society.
Despite India’s much touted slogan of development in IIOJK after the revocation of Article 370, the reality of society of IIOJK speaks counter to it. The suppression of Indian authorities in IIOJK has an intensified impact on the lives of Kashmiri women. They are facing the issues of lack of shelter as a result of India’s pillaging activities, economic insecurity as a result of abductions of the male family members, lack of education due to heightened insecurity in the region, etc. International community must take steps to ensure the rights of the women in IIOJK.
Zaman Bajwa, Executive Director YFK, gave his message that he encourages women in their equal participation in all spheres of life, and reiterates his continuous support for the cause of empowerment of Kashmiri women in IIOJK.
Syed Ali Muneeb, a lobbyist at YFK, paid tribute to the struggle of Kashmiri women and pledged his advocacy for voicing their rights. He appreciated their courage and determination which continues to be inspiration for women across the world.
Muhammad Tariq, Digital media Coordinator, while highlighting the continuous difficulties faced by women from different societal elements, encourages them to pursue their dreams.
Rubab Nawaz, a researcher at YFK, pays homage to the Kashmiri women’s resilience and strength. She recommends women to fulfil their dreams, never give up on their rights, and keep going for what they have set their minds to.
YFK team pays tribute to the Kashmiri women who are fighting for their rights against the occupying forces in IIOJK.
