News: The demise of Abbas Ansari, Altaf Ahmed Shah was an irreparable loss to the freedom struggle: Nayeem Khan
Senior APHC leader Nayeem Ahmed Khan while expressing his profound grief over the death of former Hurriyat chairman Molvi Abbas Ansari and Altaf Ahmed Shah has termed the demise of both leaders as an irreparable loss for the ongoing struggle.
He, however, maintained that the death or martyrdom of Hurriyat leaders won’t affect the Kashmiris’ struggle for the right to self-determination. “Death is an inevitable part of life but filling the void left by their demise is not an easy job”, Khan said, adding that it would require diligence and hard work on the part of people in Hurriyat fold.
Denouncing Altaf Ahmed Shah’s tragic death in Indian captivity, the jailed leader in his message from Tihar jail said, “Unfortunately, Altaf Ahmed Shah was denied and deprived of his right to medical treatment in time. He was moved to Hospital only when he was on the brink of death”.
Stressing the need for early resolution of the Kashmir dispute peacefully, the illegally detained APHC leader said, “India government must bear in mind the fact that it cannot suppress Kashmiris legitimate struggle by the dent of force”. Urging Indian leaders to take a leaf out of their founding father’s book, he said, “The founding leaders of India knew that Kashmir is a political issue that can only be resolved through third-party mediation or dialogue between key stakeholders”.
“It is this reason that the first prime minister of India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru took the issue to the United Nations in 1948”, he said.
“Given the historical context of the dispute, India can neither change the disputed nature of the Kashmir conflict nor can it deceive the world anymore”, he said.
Referring to the worsening situation in the region, he said that the BJP government in tacit support of the RSS had developed a militia of so-called social activists who were grossly engaged in vicious activities in the region. He said that the attack on the Hurriyat office at Raj Bagh in Srinagar was an open display of this hooliganism by army-backed civil militia. Terming it as an utter frustration of the government, he said, such wicked and pre-planned attacks won’t change the reality of the Kashmir issue.
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir National Front during its extraordinary meeting took serious notice of the sad plight of Kashmiri prisoners languishing in different jails outside Kashmir. The meeting urged the UN and other human rights organizations to play their role to ensure the early release of Nayeem Ahmed Khan and other Hurriyat leaders.
