The Jammu & Kashmir crises is close to our hearts and is one of the important issues on the agenda of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and therefore our commitment to the Jammu and Kashmir cause has been and will remain firm. Secretary General OIC
The government of Pakistan requested meeting of the contact group on Jammu and Kashmir on the sidelines of Makkah summit. Secretary General of the OIC, Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen addresses the assembly. Secretary General said “the Jammu and Kashmir crises is close to our hearts and is one of the important issues on the agenda of the organization of Islamic cooperation, and therefore our commitment to the Jammu and Kashmir cause has been and will remain firm”
He further added that the secretariat has continued to highlight in all engagements in the international forums that it is necessary to ensure that India ceases to use force against innocent and defenseless civilians in Kashmir and stop its disregard for human rights laws.
The secretary general wholly and downright rejected Indian attempts and claims on linking Kashmir with terrorism, which is seen as an international manifestation of Pakistani and Kashmiri narrative. He said “the struggle of the Kashmiri people is a legitimate struggle for the realization of their rights and independence and fully in conformity with the resolutions of the united nations and international law. Attempts to suppress or degrade it by linking it to terrorism are, therefore, futile and in volition of United Nations resolutions and international law.
The secretary general also hopes that both India and Pakistan will soon resume dialogue. He sees dialogue the only viable framework for addressing all outstanding issues, particularly the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.
The highlight of this meeting on Jammu and Kashmir was” OIC will continue to work towards a peaceful solution to the Kashmir conflict. The OIC independent permanent human rights commission will also continue to monitor serious violations of human rights in Kashmir and will continue to raise it with other international human rights bodies”.
OIC is the second largest multilateral organization after the United Nations, encompassing a quarter of humanity and a cumulative gross domestic Product of $19.4 trillion. Delinking terrorism from the Kashmir cause on an important platform like OIC is a significant win of Pakistan and Kashmir’s narrative internationally!
